The team's SEAT Ibiza GTI was built by SBG for SEAT Cupra Sport for the 1998 Super Six challenge. Driven by Mike Brown the car went on to win the challenge.
Purchased by Nik Kershaw Rallying in January 1999 the car was entered in that years BTRDA Gold Star championship. This was Nik's first attempt at stage rallying, having come from a road rally background.
The 1999 season proved quite succesfull, with 11 events contested and 10 finishes achieved (to finish first, first you have to finish). A revamp was made for the 2000 season, a new (or some would say Old) co-driver was installed in the car.
Howard Cooper is an ex Skoda GB and British Leyland Special Tuning co-driver (Click Here for Profile), and it was hoped that his experience would help Nik achieve his potential. The 2000 season has proved very successfull, the crew have led the A7 class from round 3 of the championship to round 9. Nik finished 2nd in class, and Howard winning the class.
Plans for 2001 (subect to Foot and Mouth) are that Nik and Howard will be chasing class honours in BTRDA, Welsh National, and East Midlands championships, as well as a visit to Swden to contest a European Championship round.
At the end of the season it was a case of "Mission Accomplished" with class wins in A7 in BTRDA and C3 in the CCI Welsh National Championship. This combined with the 40th overall on the South Swedish rounded off a great season. Further support was attracted during the year from Arena Know How and Maxsport Competition Tyres.
Plans for 2002 are even more adventurous with the ongoing support of all the sponsors, not only will Nik and Howard take a further run at BTRDA and Welsh National, but the team will also be going after A7 in the ANCRO championship, and if the budget can be found will return to Sweden in May.
So as the Home page says "Follow the Team with the only IBIZA in a national championship"
